Systems Theory

Systems Theory focuses therapeutic framework and interventions on a relationship system, which includes the people attending therapy as well as other important people who are not in the room, like children. The goal of therapy is to help the system be healthier. It doesn’t prioritize one family member over the other. In addition, Systems Theory integrates the impact of larger cultural systems that can impact a couple or family (like systemic oppression and families of origin). Systems Theory acknowledges that each person in a relationship impacts the relationship and that relationship dynamics are co-created. In addition to Systems Theory, I use The Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy to help people in relationship meet their specific goals. Although I use these frameworks for many clients, therapy is tailored for each relationship because every relationship is unique.
